Description

In this talk I discuss the increasingly urgent challenge concerning the "I" in FAIR: Interoperability, especially considering the wider open-science ecosystem. This matters especially now because of cross-domain and cross-border reuse, the growing need for AI-ready data, and EU open-science policy. I map some of the main actors operating at the European and international level and review where NOMAD already interoperates well and where the gaps remain. I then go through candidate data and metadata standards - including JSON Schema, JSON-LD, RO-Crate, DCAT-AP, FAIR Signposting etc. - noting for each who is advocating it and weighing its likely impact against the effort NOMAD would need to adopt it. The goal is not a verdict but a shared map of the trade-offs, to open a discussion on where NOMAD's interoperability roadmap should extend next.
